Abstract The liver is one of the most important organs which is the key organ of metabolism and excretion. Liver is exposed to various types of therapeutic agents and xenobiotics leading to acute and chronic liver diseases which has a harmful effect on the liver. Thus the disorders associated with this organ are numerous and varied. Most of the available therapies support the process of healing of the liver so we looking for the important role of herbal medicine and alternative medicine to replace the chemical drugs. The current study was carried out to evaluate the protective antioxidant effect of ginseng and zizyphus spina – christi (ZSC) as a natural medicine and silymarin as a standard hepatoprotective drug against acute liver damage induced by carbon tetrachloride(CCL4)which causes damage of the membrane of liver cells , organelles, necrosis and lipid peroxidation. There are biochemical and histopathological measures were carried out to evaluate the hepatoprotective effect of ginseng and izyphus spina – christi. The experimental design : Twenty five adult albino rats were divided into five groups each of five : group (1) : 2 ml distilled water orally and paraffin oil 1.25 ml/kg b.wt was injected I/P (kept as a control). |
