Abstract

This study aims to evaluate the role of tour leaders in Egypt. Moreover, the study focuses to discover the difficulties which they face during work and give solutions to overcome these obstacles and develop tour leader performance.
An implementing was conducted to evaluate the quantitative and qualitative. A quantitative approach based on two questionnaires was created. One of the questionnaire forms was developed and directed to a sample of Egyptian tour leaders. The questionnaire was handled to 120 persons work as tour leaders in some Egyptians tour operators companies. Out of this number, 100 forms were available for analysis representing 83.3 % response rate. The other form was created to be directed to a sample of tourists visiting Egypt during 2016. This questionnaire was handled to 1354 tourists from Germany, British and Italy. Out of this number 1100 forms are valid to analyze. Moreover, a qualitative technique based on interviews was conducted with five managers of five travel agencies in Cairo, Luxor, Aswan, Hurghada and Sharm El-Sheikh.
The main findings conclude that tour leaders were suffering from many hassles like poor payment, conflicts between work and personal life and inconsistency between the type of tour and their skills. Moreover, most of the tour leaders faced a lot of problems during work like bad behavior of some tourists, bad behavior of other industry partners as a car driver, transfer man, restaurant staff, guide and front office employees and multiple responsibilities during the tour.
