Abstract

Asthma is a chronic inflammatory disorder of the airways in which many cells and cellular elements play a role. The chronic inflammation is associated with airway hyper responsiveness that leads to recurrent episodes of wheezing, breathlessness, chest tightness and coughing particularly at night or in the early morning. .
Children who have chronic medical problems are much more likely to get depression and anxiety. Severe asthma, severe head injury, diabetes, epilepsy, and many of the less common chronic childhood diseases can result in depression and anxiety.
Bronchial asthma is considered in the first place between these chronic diseases that affect the psychological status.
Depression and anxiety disorders are the most psychological side effects happened in children and adults suffering from asthma.
In our study:
According to previously mentioned information about asthma and its psychological side effects, we must spot light on patients with bronchial asthma and to assess their psychological status to measure their liability to develop anxiety and depression and to assess the degree of severity of depression and anxiety.
I made a correlation between the severity of depression and anxiety (either social or generalized) and severity of bronchial asthma, and also with patients’ socio demographic data as sex, age, urbanization and socioeconomic status to show the effect of these data on the severity level of depression and anxiety.
