Abstract 1-The ultimate flexure strength for rectangular section reinforced with steel bars was 8-16% larger than that sections reinforced with CFRP bars with same dimension and ratio of reinforced points. It should be noted that mode of failure for both types is tension controlled failure (i.e designed as under reinforced section) 2-The ultimate flexure strength for rectangular section reinforced with CFRP bars larger than that for section reinforced with steel by 4-12% for section with same dimension and same ratio. It should be noted that code recommends design of section reinforced with CFRP bars as compression failure, while tension failure is recommended for design when steel used as reinforcement.3-Comparison of interaction diagrams of sections reinforced with CFRP bars and those reinforced with steel has shown that: -For sections reinforced with CFRP, the increase of reinforcement ratio from 1-3% results a decrease in balanced load by 60% |
