Abstract Hypertension as a silent killer, obesity and hyperlipidemia with its entire burden on the cardiovascular system and diabetes mellitus and its complications are the components of metabolic syndrome. It was found that there is a great association between the serum level of OT and MetS in both men and women with higher levels in men. High OT levels seem to be secondary to the metabolic abnormalities of MetS and reflect self-limiting mechanisms. Recent researches are aiming at using OT or its analogs as a treatment for obesity and MetS as it has an effect on caloric intake, obesity and blood pressure. |
