Abstract

The use of toxic pesticides to manage pest problems has become a common practice around the world. So, this research was conducted to assess some pesticides side effects at two approaches in vivo and in vitro studies. Two pesticides, namely COS and fipronil were chosen to realize the teratogenicity and genotoxicity. The experimental rat Rattus norvegicus was chosen as presentitive of higher animals or human for assess the teratogenicity in in vivo studies. The liver and kidney cell lines were chosen for assign the genotoxicity in vitro studies. Part І: In vivo studies: 1- Toxicological tests : Lethal dose that kill 50 % of the population (LD50) of each pesticides come to be 1500 mg/kg and 21 mg/kg of female rats body weight for COS and Fipronil, respectively. 2- Teratogenicity studies : In order to study teratogenic effects of COS at 1/10 LD50 (150 mg/kg b.wt) and 1/30 LD50 (50 mg/kg b.wt) and fipronil at 1/10 LD50
Summary
147
(2.1 mg/kg b.wt) and 1/30 LD50 (0.7 mg/kg b.wt) were introduced orally by using stomach tubes. Pesticides were introduced to rats for ten times starting from 6th to 15th day of gestation. Both pesticides caused pronounced deleterious effects on all parameters. 1.2.1- Chitosan oligosaccharide: 1.2.1.1 1/10 LD50 (150 mg/kg b.wt) for ten days, from 6th to 15th day of gestation period:  The weight gain of dams were significantly reduced.  Both placenta and uterus weight were significantly decreased.  Number of fetuses, implantation sites and resorbed fetuses did not show significant difference.
