Abstract
This is a case control study aiming to evaluate serum resistin level in children and adolescent with type 1DM.and study its relation to different clinical & laboratory parameters in the studied groups.
The study included two groups, group 1: included 30 children and adolescent diagnosed as diabetic patients and furtherly subdivided into 2 subgroups: group1a (patient with disease duration less than 5 years (18) and group 1b (those with duration equal to or more than 5 years (12))
group 2: This included 20 apparently healthy children and adolescent as a control group, age and sex matched to the diseased group.
The studied groups were subjected to through history taking, clinical examination and laboratory investigation including: blood glucose levels (fasting, postprandial), glycosylated hemoglobin (HbA1c %) and serum resistin level.
As regarding the clinical results of the present study we found that studied diabetic children had significantly higher BMI than controls. Also the studied diabetic group with disease duration more than or equal to 5 years had significant higher age, weight and height than those with disease duration less than 5 years.
Moreover, the studied diabetic females had significant higher BMI than diabetic males.
As regarding the studied laboratory data we found that diabetic group had significant higher fasting blood sugar, 2H post prandial and HBA1c and significant lower resistin than control group.(p<0.01 for each)
Also, there were insignificant differences between cases with duration less than 5 years and those with duration equal to or more than 5 years regarding fasting blood sugar, 2h post prandial, HBA1C and resistin serum levels.
Moreover, we found insignificant difference between male and female as regarding serum resistin level .also there was insignificant difference between resistin in cases with HbA1c less than 6 and those with HbA1c equal to or more than 6.
