The present study was conducted to study the effects of boldenone undecylenate on pregnant rats and their developing foeti during both the gestation and lactation. Ι- Effects on dams and developing foeti: The test drug was intramuscularly administered in its therapeutic dose; 1.9mg/200gm b. wt. once. Twenty pregnant rats were classified into four equal groups each of five. The first group was left untreated and considered as a control. The second group injected with the drug on the 1st day of pregnancy. The third group injected with the drug on the 6th day of pregnancy. The fourth group injected with the drug on the 15th day of pregnancy. On the 20th day, each dam was weighed, anaesthetized and caesarian section was performed to obtain the foeti. Possible foetal morphological, visceral, skeletal and histopathological changes were recorded. It has been recorded that morphological examination in foeti obtained from dam rats intramuscularly injected with boldenone undecylenate on the 1st day of gestation displayed a significant decrease in the number of implantation sites with a significant increase in resorbed foeti, pre-implantation and post-implantation death. |
