Abstract

Objectives: The aim of this study was to compare the clinical and radiographic outcomes of two early loading protocols of dental implant and to evaluate the prognostic accuracy of resonance frequency analysis (RFA) in predicting failure risk of dental implant. Methods : Fourteen female patients were included in this study for replacement of a single missed maxillary tooth in the aesthetic zone by dental implant. In the first group A, implants were early loaded at 3 weeks after implant insertion, while in the second group B, implants were early loaded at 8 weeks after implant insertion. All patients were evaluated clinically and radiographically at implant placement time, loading time and 6 months after loading regarding implant stability, peri-implant pocket depth, modified sulcus bleeding index and marginal bone loss. All clinical and radiographic data were subjected to statistical analysis. Receiver operating characteristic (ROC) analysis was used to determine whether ISQ values could accurately predict implant failure. Results : There were no significant differences between the two groups for any of the parameters evaluated. The area under the ROC curve for RFA at implant placement time was 68% with a non-significant P-value (P =0.562). Conclusion : Early loading is a safe and predictable procedure for replacement of a single missing maxillary tooth in the esthetic zone. Regarding the prognostic accuracy of RFA in predicting implant failure, it’s measurements at the time of implant placement were not able to predict early failure of dental implants.
