Abstract The inferiorly based hemigastrocnemius muscle flap based on the vascular bundles between the two heads can be useful for reconstruction of the middle third of the leg, It is a simple technique allowing rapid, durable and reliable coverage of these defects without sacrificing a nerve or a major vessel to the foot. Unlike microvascular free flaps which require steep learning curve as well instruments dependent like; Operating Microscope, Microvascular instruments and additional man-power. There are many related advantages of this flaps; it is a one stage reconstruction, it is present in the dissection field, Full tissue coverage, functional recovery and good aesthetic results are achieved with minimum damage to the donor site. In addition, the surgical procedure is relatively short and easy to perform, and itdoesn’t require microsurgical skills and instruments. Functional deficit and contour irregularity are minimal, with primary closure of donor site. |
