Abstract

Intellectual disabled children are at higher risk injury and other health hazards than healthy children. Teachers should be well trained on first aid and emergency control to save children lives. Aim of this study was to evaluate the outcomes of the first aid training program on teachers of intellectual disabled children at emergency situations. The setting of the study was conducted at three Schools of intellectual disabled children (Banha,Toukh and Elamaar). The sample of the study involved sixty teachers employed in intellectual disabled schools. Tools of data collection involved questionnaire to assess teacher’s socio demographic characteristic, knowledge related to first aid needed to children at emergency situations, observation check list to assess the level of practical skills of teachers in emergency situations. Safety school environment as class room ventilation, play ground, fire alarm, fire extinguish, toilet, electricity, kite of emergency, ambulance phone number & poisoning phone number. Results of the study revealed that; Post implementation of the first aid program most of the studied teachers had satisfactory level of knowledge and practice in comparison to pre test. Conclusion: the designed health education and training program led to significant improvement of knowledge and practice of the studied teachers in first aid and dealing with emergency situations occurring to intellectual disabled children. The study recommends the first aid training program must be provided periodically in intellectual disabled schools.
