Abstract

T6. Summary
This study aimed to investigate the effect of different doses of dried Cinnamon and Amla on rats induced to hyperlipidemia and hyperglycemia.
* The study was carried out as follows:
Rats were divided into 11 groups 6 rats in each group and fed several diets for 28 days as follows:
- group 1: fed on basal diet as a negative control.
- group 2: (hyperlipidemia control): fed on basal diet (positive control).
- group 3: Fed on high fat diet containing 1% Cinnamon.
- group 4: Fed on high fat diet containing 1.5% Cinnamon.
- group 5: Fed on diet on high fat diet containing 1% Amla.
- group 6: Fed on high fat diet containing 1.5% Amla.
- group 7: (diabetic control): fed on basal diet (positive control).
- group 8: Fed on basal diet containing 1% Cinnamon.
- group 9: fed on basal diet containing 1.5% Cinnamon.
- Group10: fed on basal diet containing 1% Amla.
Group11: fed on basal diet containing 1.5 % Amla.
After 4 weeks the effect of the different experimental diets were determined on body weight gain, food intake, feed efficiency ratio, organs relative weight, glucose , liver function, kidney function and blood lipid profile .
The results could be summarized as follows:
The effect of Cinnamon and Amla on body weight gain and daily feed intake in diabetic rats.
The mean value of feed intake for healthy rats group (control negative) was (14.94±1.1 g/day). While the intake for untreated diabetic group (control positive) was (8.19±1.2 g/day). Feed intake were increase for diabetic group that treated with different doses of Cinnamon and Amla. The highest feed intake was recorded for group treated with 1.5% of Amla and 1.5% of Cinnamon. Even, significant differences were observed between them and control negative and positive group.
Body weight gain for healthy rats group (control negative) was 29.66±2.94g/day. While, the body weight gain for untreated diabetic group. The highest weight gain was recorded for group that treated with 1.5% of Amla followed by group treated with 1% of Cinnamon. Even, there were a statistical significant differences were recorded between them and control positive and negative groups.
The effect of Cinnamon and Amla on weight of liver, kidney and spleen.
The mean value of weight of liver, kidney and spleen were increase for diabetic group that treated with different doses of Cinnamon and Amla. The highest weight of liver, kidney and spleen was recorded for group treated with 1 % of Amla and 1% of Cinnamon. Even, non significant differences were observed between them and control negative and positive groups.
The effect of Cinnamon and Amla on serum blood glouse in diabetic rats.
Results showed that, the mean value of serum blood glucose for healthy rats group (control negative) was (84.0±3.28) (mg/dl). While the serum for untreated diabetic group (control positive) was (329.66±15.08) (mg/dl) then healthy rats groups. Serum blood glucose was decrease for diabetic group that treated with different doses of Cinnamon and Amla. from the above mentioned, there were significant differences were observed between control negative and positive groups for their serum blood sugar. In most cases, serum blood sugar was decrease for diabetic group that treated with different doses of Cinnamon and Amla. The lowest in serum blood sugar was recorded for group treated with 1.5% of Amla and 1.5% of Cinnamon. Even, significant differences were observed between them and control negative and positive groups.
The effect of Cinnamon and Amla on serum of total cholesterol and serum triglycerides in diabetic rats.
The data showed that, serum cholesterol and triglycerides for healthy rats group (control negative) was (84.28±6.19 and 70.27±3.78) (mg/dl) respectively. While, the serum for untreated diabetic group (control positive) was (304.17±30.25 and 140.07±3.73) (mg/dl) respectively. In most cases, serum cholesterol and triglycerides were decrease for diabetic group that treated with different doses of Cinnamon and Amla. The lowest in serum cholesterol was recorded for group treated with 1.5% of Amla and 1.5% of Cinnamon. The lowest in serum triglycerides was recorded for group treated with 1.5% of Amla. Even, significant differences were observed between them and control negative and positive groups.
The effect of Cinnamon and Amla on serum lipoproteins in diabetic rats.
Results showed that, the mean value of serum LDL was decrease for diabetic group that treated with different doses of Cinnamon and Amla. The lowest serum LDL was recorded for group treated with 1.5% of Amla and 1.5% of Cinnamon. Even, significant differences were observed between them and control negative and positive groups. In most cases, serum VLDL was decrease for diabetic group that treated with different doses of Cinnamon and Amla. The lowest serum VLDL was recorded for group treated with 1.5% of Amla and 1% of Cinnamon. Even, significant differences were observed between them and control negative and positive groups.
The effect of Cinnamon and Amla on serum urea, uric acid and creatinine in diabetic rats.
The data showed that, serum urea, uric acid, and creatinine were decrease for diabetic group that treated with different doses of Cinnamon and Amla. The lowest serum urea, serum uric acid and creatininc were recorded for group treated with 1.5% of Amla and 1.5% of Cinnamon. Even, significant differences were observed between them and control negative and positive groups.
The effect of Cinnamon and Amla on serum AST, ALT and ALP in diabetic rats.
The data showed that, serum AST, ALT and ALP for healthy rats group (control negative) was (150.83±2.48, 35.66±2.8 and 42.33±3.01), respectively. While, serum AST, ALT and ALP for untreated diabetic group (control positive) was 242.0±21.10, 62.33±3.20 and 73.83±5.27, respectively. from the above mentioned, there were significant differences were observed between control negative and positive groups for their serum AST, ALT and ALP .Serum AST, ALT and ALP were decrease for diabetic group that treated with different doses of Cinnamon and Amla. The lowest serum AST, ALT and ALP were recorded for group treated with 1.5% of Amla, and 1.5% of Cinnamon. Even, significant differences were observed between them and control negative and positive groups.
The effect of Cinnamon and Amla on body weight gain and daily feed intake in hyperlipidemic rats.
Data showed that, feed intake for healthy rats group (control negative) was 14.94±1.1 g/day. While, the intake for untreated hyperlipidemic group (control positive) was 14.61±1.0 g/day. from the above mentioned, there were non significant differences were observed between control negative and positive groups for their feed intake, being the same.
In most cases, feed intake were increase for hyperlipidmic group that treated with different doses of Cinnamon and Amla. The highest feed intake was recorded for group treated with 1.5% of Amla, 1% of Cinnamon and 1% of Amla. Even, significant differences were observed between them and control negative and positive groups. Data showed that, body weight gain for healthy rats group (control negative) was 29.66±2.94 g/day. While, the body weight gain for untreated hyperlipidemic group (control positive) was 28.33±2.94 g/day. from the above mentioned, there were non significant differences were observed between control negative and positive groups for their feed intake, being the same. The highest weight gain was recorded for group that treated with 1.5% of Amla, followed by group treated with 1% of Cinnamon. Even, there were a statistical significant differences were recorded between them and control positive and negative groups.
