Abstract

FLACS offers numerous advantages over current surgical techniques. Femtosecond lasers were initially developed for refractive surgery due to their micron precision and ability to cut through optically clear tissue without disrupting surrounding tissues. (242,243,244) these lasers may revolutionize the way cataract surgery is performed with promising preliminary results showing precise and self-sealing corneal incisions. (245,246) Many studies have shown that the pretreatment of cataracts with lasers using FLACS leads to a reduced IOL tilt and improved biometry predictability.(247,248) The reported benefits of FLACS over CPS include increased precision and reproducibility of anterior capsulotomy(165,244,247), and on the predictability in the IOL power calculation(177,247),reduced ultrasound power requirement during phacoemulsification (244,249), better wound architecture (222,249) and decreased collateral tissue damage (250), These benefits may result in improved safety and precision, leading to more predictable refractive outcomes and decreased incidence of postoperative complications.
