Abstract The present study was performed to investigate the effect of induction of heme oxygenase 1 (HO-1) by hemin injection on obese and diabetic male rats and the possible mechanisms underlying this effect. The present work was carried on (50) male wistar rats; the animals were categorized into five groups (10) rats in each group: (group 1): control group The animals of this group were injected intraperitonealy by 0.3 ml saline twice weekly for 8 weeks. (group 2): obese group: Obesity was induced in these rats by feeding a high fat diet for 4 weeks. After induction of obesity this group was injected intraperitonealy by 0.3 ml saline twice weekly for 8 weeks. (group 3): Diabetic group: Diabetes was induced by single intraperitonial injection of STZ in a dose 60mg/kg BW. After induction of diabetes this group was injected intraperitonealy by 0.3 ml saline twice weekly for 8 weeks. (group 4): Obese-hemin treated group: After induction of obesity |
