Abstract

• Gynecological examination is an exam conducted to assess the various parts of the female reproductive system .A gynecological exam is a regular medical procedure that need to be conducted throughout the life of female to ensure that there is no abnormality in the reproductive system .the first gynecological examination is usually conducted when the girl is reaching 18 years of age and done to check if the structures of the reproductive system are normal.(Dunham et al .,2012). The present study aimed to assess care given to woman undergoing gynecological examination. The study was conducted at gynecological unit at obstetric medicine department at Benha university hospital. Systematic random sample was selected and included woman attending at gynecological unit at obstetric medicine department at Benha university hospital (286 woman). Tools of data collection: Tool I: Structured interviewing questionnaire sheet: Part(1): personal data: as age, qualification ,occupation ,level of education …etc. Part(2): Medical and surgical history: concerning women medical disorder(diabetes, breast cancer ,hypertention…etc.) Part(3):Obstetric history :menstrual cycle, No of abortion, pregnancy and labor.…etc. Part(4):Gynecologic history: vaginal discharge with or without odor, allergies, previous gynecological problem, presenting complain …etc Tool II: Obeservational check list: To assess care provided to women at all phases of gynecological examination. 1- Pre examination: preparation of woman: Psychological preparation :(relief fear and anxiety…etc) Physical preparation: (explain procedure, sterile examination area…etc) Environmenatal preparation: (adequate sterilization examination field…etc) Equipment, supplies preparation:(gloves, speculum, lubricant…etc) 2- During examination: -Keep privacy. -Keep environment clean: (change bed linen, keep bed dry, provide adequate light…etc) -Keep mother at suitable position e.g lithotomy…etc-Sterile of external genital area (perineal care…etc) -Handle examination instruments.
