Abstract

The current study was conducted to determine the correlation between epicardial fat volume and presence of significant CADu sing 64 multi slice CT for patients referred for evaluation of coronaries by CTA The study was done on 121 individual referred for 64 multi-slice CTA for diagnosis of CAD or follow up with exclusion of patients with open heart surgery arrhythmia, high serum creatinine 2mg%, poorimagequality, extensiveCAC score, veryhigh bodymass index
Historywastakencarefullyandanthropometricmeasuresofobesityand fat distributionweredone.Riskfactors forCAD werepointedout fromhistory
CTscanwasdone usingGE64 sliceCT,allpatientshadCACscoring except thosewithdocumentedCAD,and then contrastCT enhanced coronary angiographywithnonionic lowosmolarcontrastinjectedbyAutomatic injector
Thedata setsareretrospectively reconstructedatmid tolatediastolic phase of each cardiac cycle (75%), additional reconstruction at variable phaseswereneededinsome cases ofnon-evaluable segments
Thecurrentstudy revealedavery strongcorrelationbetweenEFVand the presenceofsignificantCAD.
The studyalso proved that other fat depots are not sensitive for the presenceofCAD.Although epicardial fatincreasedin patientswithpositive CAC,therewasno differenceinamountofEFVwithincreasein theamountof calcium
Thestudy alsoprovedthatthereissignificantincreaseintheamountof EFV and age,and thiswasmore prevalentabove age of50years.Regarding riskfactorstherewerenorelationbetweenvariousriskfactorsandEFVapart
