Abstract

cross over study we evaluated the efficacy and safety of tamsulosin 0.4mg and tadalafil 5mg in management of patients with BPH.With special pointing to those suffering from ED. A total 90 of patients completed the study. They were randomized into 2 groups as follows: group A: 44 patients use Tamsulosin 0.4mg at night once daily for 12 weeks. group B: 46 patients use Tadalafil 5mg at night once daily for 12 weeks. IPSS, IIEF-5 score, Q-max and PVRU were reported at the start of study then at the end of the 3rd month then washout period for 2 weeks followed by another reporting at the end of the 6th month. Also any adverse events were reported to assess the safety of medications. The efficacy of 0.4 mg daily of tamsulosin in patients with LUTS due to BPH demonstrated high tolerability and enduring safety throughout the study without development of tolerance. It showed significant Improvements in symptoms IPSS, urine flow Q-max and PVRU volume with no significant improvement in IIEF-5 score. Tadalafil was shown to be significantly effective for improving LUTS/BPH. Significant improvements in IIEF and numerical improvement in IPSS score were also observed in patients with comorbid BPH and ED. tadalafil 5 mg dose showed mild improvement in Q-max and PVRU volume. Additionally, AEs were transient and not serious which demonstrated that tadalafil was well tolerated.
