Abstract

We retrospectively reviewed the records of 44 diagnosed cases of testicular tumors and presented to our center in the interval between 2003 and 2012.We analyzed clinical parameters: age at presentation, marital status, performance status, history of cryptorchidism, family history of malignancy and the presenting complain. Also analyzed pathological parameters (histological subtype) and treatment received; surgical resection, chemotherapy (intent of treatment, regimen and number of cycles), RT (intent of treatment, dose, fractionation and time from diagnosis to start radiotherapy) and best supportive care.
In our study CGT is the most common histological subtype of testicular tumors and constitutes 90.9 %.The median age at diagnosis is 30 years. History of cryptorchidism reported in 15.9% of our cases making it the most important risk factor associated with testicular tumors.
Routine hematological and blood chemistry tests done to almost all patients in this study. Tumour markers were assessed preoperatively and postoperatively.
The major significant prognostic factors in our study were age, histopathological type of tumor, presence of metastasis, stage of the disease and type of chemotherapy received. However, no significant impact was found for time to presentation, elevation of tumor markers postoperatively and presence of lymph nodes invasion at time of diagnosis.
Response to treatment, relapse free and overall survival was analyzed for each parameter.
The standard treatment options of testicular cancer in our study consists of inguinal orchiectomy, active surveillance, chemotherapy and radiotherapy. The management of testicular cancer depends on the clinical stage and the histological diagnosis although the initial treatment for most testicular tumors is orchiectomy.
