Abstract
Image refers to the tangible
from a person’s conduct as a professional, linked to competence and ethical behavior.
The present study aims to explore the relation between image of nursing as a
profession and nursing students’ self-esteem. A descriptive study design was utilized
with a sample of (422) nursing students represents five schools where selected by
systematic random sample from
governorate. Data were collected by two questionnaire sheet t~e. first image of l1u-rsing
profession questionnaire sheet
inventory sheet to determine
factors had positive effect and other factors had a negative effect on image of nursing
profession. The majority of nursing students in the three grades had low self-esteem.
Finally there was a negative correlation between self-esteem and factors affecting
image of nursing as a profession, It is recommended that developing awareness
programs about importance of nursing in health institutions .In addition conduct
prospective follow up studies are needed to improve nursing students’ level of self-
esteem.
