Abstract Pregnancy is one of the most important periods in the life of a woman, her family and the society. Therefore extraordinary attention is given to antenatal care by the health care systems of most developed and developing countries. In recent years, emphasis on improving the quality of care provided by the nation’s health settings has increased signifi- cantly and continues to gain momentum. Nurses are integral to patients’ care, nurses also are pivotal in nation’s efforts to improve quality. As health settings face increasing demands to participate in a wide range of quality improvement activities, they are reliant on nurses to help address these demands. Hence, the present study aimed at identifying the effect of applying performance improvement model on antenatal care nurses’ performance in family health centers. A quasi experimental design was used to conduct this study. It has been carried out in 5 family health centers in Qena city which affiliated to Ministry of Health and population. The subjects were consists of all nurses providing antenatal care in the previously selected settings (37 nurses) and a random sample of 332 registered women attending for antenatal care (166) before program and another matching sample (166) after prorgram. Four tools were developed by the researcher as a structured questionnaire sheet .which assessed: personal and socio demographic data about nurses, nurses’ knowledge regarding antenatal care and the most common problems facing nurses at their work. Tool II: An observation checklist to observe the actual nursing performance in antenatal clinic. in addition to, Tool Ill: structured interview schedule was developed to assess client’s satisfaction regarding services provided in the centers and Tool IV: observation checklist to observe the family health center environment. Approvals were obtained for conducting the study at the specified settings. A pilot study was carried on 5 nurses and 10 registered women to test the developed tools. The field work of the study was conducted in a period of 6 months (from October to March 2014).Data were collected by the researcher then appropriate descriptive and analytical statistics were carried out. |
