Abstract All nursing services that are provided to patients need that head nurses maintain the internal coordination of activities. Head nurses perform this function through planning the daily work of nurses,organizing the work procedures, directing staff members for performing their duties and controlling the nurses’ performance. It is an integrative function that links all the services needed by the patients and ensure that all nurses perform their work at the right time in the unit. Head nurses are held responsible for internally coordinating the provision of care on a day to day basis to facilitate a timely delivery of care and to promote a collaborative practice atmosphere among the health care providers. The present research aimed to assess head nurses’ performance of internal coordination managerial function. The study was conducted at Tanta University Hospitals departments included the Main University Hospital, Student Hospital, Emergency Hospital and Ophthalmology Hospital. The study subjects included all (140) head nurses were working at the time of data collection in these departments. To achieve the aim of the study one tool was used. Tool: The internal coordination managerial function questionnaire. The tool consisted of two parts: the first part included demographic data of head nurses and the second part included questions on internal coordination managerial function; it was divided into four subscales: planning, organizing, directing and controlling. The tool was translated into Arabic language and submitted to jury of five experts to check content validity and clarity of its items. The Content validity was 96%.The pilot study was carried out on 10% of head nurses’ sample that are randomly selected and they were from outside the sample. |
