Objective: This study is conducted to through a light on the effect of mbl2 gene mutations on the outcome of hepatitis B virus (HBV) infection, both the HBV inactive carriers and the spontaneously recovered individuals Subjects and method: This study was carried out on 27 adult HBV infected patients (inactive carriers and spontaneously recovered individuals, in addition to 40 healthy control subjects. Serum MBL level was done by ELISA. Whole EDTA blood samples were used for genomic DNA extraction and genetic polymorphism of mbl2 gene at codon 52, 54 and 57 of exon 1 of mbl2 gene using PCR- RFLP. Result: Serum concentration of MBL was significantly higher in spontaneously recovered than inactive carriers and control .C54 mutation showed significantly increased frequency in inactive carriers than control, with increased risk of being HBV carrier within healthy control subjects. Conclusion: High serum MBL level is associated with more recovery from HBV. MBL gene polymorphisms affect the HBV susceptibility and severity.
