Abstract

The present work deals with the removal of finely dispersed oil from oil/water emulsions by electrocoagulation using an electrolytic cell with horizontal Al electrodes. The % removal was studied under different conditions of the following variables: . Concentration of oil with water in its emulsion . . Disc anode rotational speed. . Electrolyte (NaCl) concentration. . pH of the oil emulsion. The study revealed the following results: -The horizontal electrode is efficient in moderate concentration. -The present work has shown that the % removal is higher in case of high Speed of rotation. -The maximum removal when using NaCl occurred on using NaCl in oil with water in its emulsion. -pH was found to show a little effect on the % removal of oil. -The present promising results with the proposed cell design calls for further studies on a pilot plant scale before applying the technique in industry.
