Abstract

This study was conducted in Sohag Medical Hospital, on Five hundred and twenty women attending the antenatal clinic of Obestetric and Gynacology departement. The inclusion criteria were well-established dates, non-anomalous singleton fetuses and all women were normal pregnancies.
In each woman BPD, HC, AC, FL and TCD were measured. Correlation of TCD was done with other measured parameters as well as estimated GA of fetus. A statistically significant scattered diagram relationship was also demonstrated between TCD and BPD (R2 ˆ 0.96; P, 0.0001, and between TCD and FL (R2 = 0.96; P, 0.0001. The 5th, 50th and 95th percentiles were estimated at each week of gestation by least-squares regression for the mean and standard deviation and associated P-values for the relationships of TCD with GA, and TCD with other sonographic biometric measurements were calculated. It was found that there is good correlation between TCD and other parameters. Also TCD shows good correlation with GA.
Mean maternal age was 26.17 (4.19) years, there were 434 (83.4%) of them from Urban areas while about 86 (16.6%) were from rural areas. In these women the mean gravidity was 3.17 and median parity was 2 (0-6), the mean of GA was 27.31 (4.60) ,the previous delivery, the none was 59 (11.32%), the vaginal delivery was 354 (67.95%), the vaginal & CS was 2 (0.38%), the CS was 106 (20.35%).
.
CONCLUSIONS
1. Fetal biparietal diameter, femur length, abdominal circumference and head circumference measurements of the fetus in normal pregnancies were comparable with TCD measurement between 19 and 40 weeks of gestation.
2. The nomogram can be used for assessing the fetal gestational age when LMP is not known and to asses any deviation from normal growth. A nomogram is made comparing TCD with GA. Line diagram plotted between GA and TCD shows linear relation. GA (in weeks), mean of TCD (in mm) and SD was calculated which showed linear growth of all variables along with gestational age.
3. A statistically significant curvilinear relationship was found between the transverse cerebellar diameter and the gestational age (R²=0.99; P =0.0001) , the BPD (R²=0.94; P=0.0001), the AC (R²=0.94; P=0.0001), the FL (R²=0.98; 0.0001) and the HC(R²=0.95;P=0.0001). The pattern of growth of cerebellum measured by the TCD follows a second degree polynomial ,similar to the growth of biparietal diameter femur length, HC &AC.The equations for the TCD against GA, BPD, FL, HC and AC are described.
