Abstract

Cerebral Palsy is a condition marked by impaired muscle coordination and other disabilities, typically caused by damage to the brain before or at birth. with a range of severity levels and several complications, often requiring special care, causes limitations in children and, consequently, in the family, because when it comes to pediatrics, the feelings may be more intense for cultural reasons, changes occur in the family routine, with a possible direct impact on patients’ lives, as well as on the caregivers’, especially mothers. Quality of life of children with cerebral palsy has been defined as a subjective and multidimensional concept that includes the functional capacity and psychosocial interaction between the child and its family. So, the use of an education training program for mothers having cerebral palsy children can decrease the rate of disability and improve their quality of life. The Main Results of This Study were As Follows:There was a highly statistical significant difference regarding to the total level of knowledge pre and post program implementation where, 82.0 % of the studied mothers had unsatisfactory level of knowledge about CP pre program compared to 92.0 % of them had satisfactory level of knowledge post program implementation.There were a statistical significant difference in relation to total level of reported practices pre and post program implementation where (46.0%) of the studied mothers had unsatisfactory level of reported practices pre program compared to (86.0 %) of them had satisfactory level of reported practices post program implementation. There were highly statistical significant differences in quality of life of children with CP regarding to social wellbeing, physical wellbeing and access to services (P=0.001*, P<0.0001* & P<0.0001*) pre and post educational program implementation respectively. There was a statistical significant correlation between mothers’ age & their total reported practice score pre and post educational program implementation. There was a statistical significant correlation between the children’s quality of life regarding to access to services and pain & mothers’ total knowledge (P=0.014* & P=0.02*) post program implementation respectively. Also, there was a strong correlation between the children’s quality of life regarding to physical wellbeing and participation & the mothers’ total reported practice (p=<0.0001* & p=<0.0001*) pre and post educational program implementation respectively. There was a statistical significant correlation between the age of the child and quality of life related to social wellbeing where (p = 0.011*), Also there was a statistical significant correlation between number of family members and quality of life related to emotional wellbeing where (p = 0.02*).Based on the findings of the present study, the following recommendations were suggested: Provide mothers of children suffering from CP by updated pamphlets, posters and Arabic booklets regarding cerebral palsy. Establishing of support group for cerebral palsy children and their mothers is mandatory to reduce mothers’ stressors.Nurses must alleviate stressors of mothers with cerebral palsy children that lead to better quality of life for children through providing the appropriate knowledge about the disease and community resources.
