Abstract The opening of the Suez Canal in (1869) resulted in the migration of about 383 marine species from the Red Sea to the Mediterranean Sea; a phenomenon known as Lessepsian migration Streftaris et al. (2005) and Daniel et al., (2009). The Lessepsian fish species have changed the ichthyofauna of the Mediterranean Sea and some of them have become of high commercial value, particularly in the eastern and central Mediterranean Bariche (2005), Bilecenoglu and Taskavak (2002) and Shakman and Kinzelbach (2007). Four species of the genus Siganus exist in the Red Sea, of these, Siganus rivulatus Ben Tuvia (1964) and Forsskål, (1775). |
