Abstract This study was carried out at the Poultry Research Farm, Poultry Production Dept., Faculty of Agriculture, Assiut University. The current study aimed to investigate the effect of light type, vitamin D3 levels and their interactions on growth performance, carcass quality, mortality rate, some blood parameters, egg production and quality, fertility and hatchability and semen quality of Dandrawi chickens under semi-intensive production Assiut Governorate, Egypt. A total number of 360 birds (180 F, 180 M) were used in this experiment. The experimental design was 3×2 factorial (three light types and two vitamin D3 levels). The light type programs were: continuous light (C), Continuous with Flash (C + F) and the flash light (F). Within each light program two levels of vitamin D3 were used, (control 0 IU and 150 IU). Birds were classified into 6 groups (60 birds each). Each group consists of three replicates of 20 birds each (10 M+ 10 F). During the growing period (4-20 weeks of age) light started from 8AM to 8PM. The six groups during the growing period from 4 to 20 weeks of age as follows: 1. Group1 (G1): Chicks were exposed to daily common continuous light (12L: 12D) and level D3 (0 IU) as a control group.2. group 2 (G2): Chicks were exposed to daily common continuous light (12L: 12D) and level D3 (150 IU) each 3. Group3 (G3): Chicks were exposed to daily continuous + Flash light (6h continuous + 6h Flash L: 12h D) and level D3 (0 IU) each 4. group 4 (G4): Chicks were exposed to daily continuous + Flash light (6h continuous + 6h Flash L: 12h D) and level D3 (150 IU) each. 5.Group5 (G5): Chicks were exposed to daily flash light (12L: 12D) and level D3 (0 IU) each 6. Group6 (G6): Chicks were exposed to daily flash light (12L: 12D) and level D3 (150 IU) each During laying period (20-44 wks of age), the same previous lighting program and levels of vitamin D3 were used as mentioned in the growing period. The six experimental groups during the laying period as follows: 1. Group1 (G1): Pullets were exposed to daily common continuous light (16L: 8D) and level D3 (0 IU) as a control group. 2. Group2 (G2): Pullets were exposed to daily common continuous light (16L: 8D) and level D3 (150 IU) as a control group. 3. Group3 (G3): Pullets were exposed to daily continuous + Flash light (8h continuous+8h Flash L: 8h D) and level D3 (0 IU) each. 4. Group4 (G4): Pullets were exposed to daily continuous + Flash light (8h continuous+8h Flash L: 8h D) and level D3 (150 IU) each. 5. Group5 (G5): Pullets were exposed to daily flash light (16L: 8D) and level D3 (0 IU) each. 6. Group6 (G6): Pullets were exposed to daily flash light (16L: 8D) and level D3 (150 IU) each. The criteria under study were body weight, body weight gain, feed consumption, feed conversion ratio for growth, carcass characteristics, some plasma constituents and livability during growing period from four to 20 weeks of age. Age at sexual maturity, hen day egg production, egg number. |
