Abstract

Oil is considered one of the main insulations in transformers since it exists with large amount in addition to its coolant capability. Therefore, it is very important to ensure its reliability. When transformers are exposed to aging processes during their operation, the insulation properties of transformer oil significantly deteriorate. This necessitates reclamation of the oil or its replacement with a new one. However, these two solutions are either costly or harmful for environment. from this point of view, this study aims to enhance aged oil properties by using nanofillers to be suitable for reusing in power transformers. Accelerated aging test is carried out to simulate the aging conditions in the laboratory through heating oil at 120 °C in an oven for different periods. Under this condition, accelerated aging for one day is considered to be equivalent to aging for one year in the field. Nanofluids are prepared by direct mixing of nanoparticles with aged oil.
