Abstract

Nurses are leaving their profession as a result of low levels of job satisfaction
arising from their working conditions as, lack of development opportunities,
limited participation in decision making and lack of work environment safety. Job
satisfaction of staff nurses directly influences quality of care. This study aims to
study the relationship between the nurse’s job satisfaction and quality of nursing
care in Damietta Oncology Institute. A correlational descriptive study was used.
Total sample included 45 nurses working in inpatient departments. Data were
collected by using three different tools, job satisfaction questionnaire,
chemotherapy administration observational checklist and pre- postoperative care
observational checklists. The current fmdings showed a low level of job
satisfaction among studied nurses in Damietta Oncology Institute. Most of this
dissatisfaction was caused by lack of advancement and skills development, work
environment safety, poor salaries and lack of responsibilities. Whereas, level of
quality of nursing care showed moderate level. This moderate level of quality
performance was preoperative nursing care and postoperative nursing care.
Promotion policies and salary scales for different staff nurses ranks, written policy
and procedure and skills training for nurses are recommended.
