Abstract Benign prostatic hyperplasia is one of the most common diseases of old men and it may be associated with sever lower urinary tract symptoms that disturb life quality. There are many options for BPH treatment ranging from watchful waiting to open prostatectomy. When surgical interference becomes mandatory TURP is the gold standard in most cases. Goserelin acetate is synthetic analogue of a naturally occurring luteinizing-hormone releasing hormone (LHRH). It rapidly binds to the LHRH receptor cells in the pituitary gland thus leading to an initial increase in production of luteinizing hormone and thus leading to an initial increase in the production of corresponding sex hormones. Eventually, after a period of about 14–21 days, production of LH is greatly reduced due to receptor down regulation, and sex hormones are generally reduced to castrate levels In our study we focused on assessment of Goserelin acetate injection before TURP for medium size BPH. We include 40 patients who were randomly divided into 2 equal groups. group A (Goserelin acetate group): received Goserelin acetate 3.6 mg single S.C injection one month before the procedure group B (control group): This group includes patients who performed TURP without Goserelin administration On preoperative assessment the 2 groups were comparable regarding, the age, IPSS, Prostate size and laboratory investigation. We did not report any. |
