Abstract This is a prospective study that was conducted at Diagnostic Radiology Department, Mansoura University Hospital during the period from March 2014 to March 2016. A total of 150 pregnant women of high risk to develop congenital heart diseases were included in this study. This study was performed mainly in the 2nd and 3rd trimesters of pregnancy with mean gestational age 26.8. The maternal age was ranging between 16 - 45 years with mean age 28.6. All these females were subjected to detailed fetal heart examination by performance the four chamber view (4CHV) in addition to outflow tract views, short axis views and longitudinal views of the heart. Color and pulsed Doppler were used to detect any valve diseases. According to the findings, the women were divided into two groups. group A included 133 pregnant females with normal fetal heart and group B included 17 pregnant women with cardiac abnormalities. In addition, the cases were also subjected to detailed fetal anatomic examination to detect any other abnormalities. We divided the included risk factors in to maternal and fetal factors. The maternal risk factors were more common than the fetal factors. 102 pregnant women with maternal risk factors were included (68%), diabetes mellitus was the most involved maternal risk factor (29.4%) with no considerable cardiac abnormalities. 48 pregnant women with fetal risk factors were included in our study (32%), the majority of them were for fetuses with other anomalies(50%) followed by hydrops fetalis (43.7%). The results of our study revealed that 11.5 % of the total 150 high risk pregnant females had fetuses with CHDs. We also found that females with fetal risk factors were more likely to have congenital heart diseases than those with maternal factors. 23% of females with fetal risk factors had congenital heart diseases while 6% of females with maternal factors had CHD. |
