Abstract

The presented work was conducted to study fungemia in patients suffering from different types of hematopoietic malignancies. Isolation of fungi from positive blood cultures was done on SDA and BAC (a selective media for isolation and presumptive identification of yeast species). Filamentous fungi were identified on the basis of their macroscopic and microscopic characteristics. Yeast species were subjected to preliminary identification by tested the growth on SDA and BAC media, germ tube test and growth at 45°C. Also, yeast species were subjected to confirmatory tests: biochemical tests using API Candida strips and molecular identification. Then the resulted fungi were tested for production of extracellular enzymes (the anti-leukemic activity L-asparaginase enzyme, lipase, protease and urease). The isolated fungi were tested for their susceptibility to four antifungal agents (fluconazole, griseofulvin, nystatin and terbinafine) using disk diffusion method at different temperatures and pH values. Also, some isolated fungi were tested for the effect of static magnetic fields (SMF) on their growth. The results
