Abstract

The experiment an attempt to face water and energy shortage based on using photovoltaic solar energy to pump water for irrigation system blow controlled and uncontrolled greenhouse during winter season ( the period from November 2014 to April 2015) at Greenhouses site, Faculty of Agriculture, Kafrelsheikh University. The variables were: daily solar radiation (W/m2), panel temperature (oC),controlled greenhouse by (a solar heater, wet pads and fans)and uncontrolled greenhouse.On the parameters of study : the electrical power output of panel (W), panel efficiency (%), subsystem efficiency (%),overall efficiency (%),emitters discharge (l/h),uniformity coefficient (%),distribution uniformity (%),emitter flow rate variation (%),coefficient of variation (%) ,the amount of applied water (m3w /m2) ,crop productivity (kg/m2) and water use efficiency (kg/m3w). The main results summarized as follows : The average daily solar radiation measured on the module surface for different clear sunny day was 4.67 kWh/m2/d (average daily of 583.72 W/m2).This result is corresponding to 20 and 35 °C for average of ambient temperature and panel temperature respectively. The value of panel efficiency which is minimum (9.88%) at open circuit voltage , 21.8V and it is maximum (15.75%) at open circuit voltage , 11.7V. The maximum value of the subsystem efficiency and the overall efficiency (41.92 and 9.85%) at the minimum value of solar radiation (138.25W/m2) at 13.00 h during tested days. Uniformity coefficient, distribution uniformity, emitter flow rate variation and coefficient of variation were (75.64,66.39, 61.54and 29.15%).The results showed the total amount of applied water was ( 0.33 and 0.52 m3w/ m2 ) for plants inside controlled and uncontrolled greenhouse. The obtained mean values of strawberry productivity were (0.11 , 0.12 , 0.15, 0.16 and 0.19 kg/m2) for controlled greenhouse and (0.06, 0.07 , 0.09, 0.12 and 0.15 kg/m2) for uncontrolled greenhouse from December 2014 to April 2015 respectively. The study recommended to use drip irrigation with solar system, where it requires a reduced flow rate , It is also suitable for small spaces such as greenhouses and remote areas because of the scarcity of fuel and labor.It recommended also use drip irrigation system for plants inside greenhouses equipped with heating and ventilation system for high productivity , quality and irrigation water use efficiency.
