Abstract

Deep Vein Thrombosis (DVT) is an urgent medical problem of the lower limb that can lead to pulmonary emboli & post phlebitic syndrome thus it requires early and accurate diagnosis.US is the most effective and preferred imaging modality for diagnosing proximal DVT. Ultrasound is safe, noninvasive, easily performed (e.g., at the patient’s bedside), easily repeatable, no radiation or contrast exposure and relatively inexpensive. This study aims at evaluating the role of ultrasound and Doppler in diagnosis of deep vein thrombosis of the lower limb (DVT). In this study 20 patients were included, they were 11male and 9 female with their mean ages 45.7±10.24 years. All cases are subjected to: history taking, US and Doppler examination. All the data of the 20 patients were analysed to demonstrate the ultrasound finding in normal and thrombosed veins. In normal veins there were:•Absence of intraluminal echoes.Complete compressibility of veins. Full color saturation of veins with venous flow at base line by Doppler examination.•Augmentation of flow with calf compression.
