Abstract Diabetes mellitus is a heterogeneous primary disorder of carbohydrate metabolism with etiologic factors that generally involve absolute or relative insulin deficiency or insulin resistance or both. IL-l is a cytokine that selectively affects pancreatic beta cells and causes change in plasma insulin. It exerts the inhibitory and cytotoxic effects on insulin producing beta cells which give rise to !JOtion that IL-l is involved in the pathogenesis of type 1 diabetes mellitus. The term insulin resistance refers to the attenuation of insulin stimulated glucose uptake obesity is the most common cause of insulin resistance. This work was conducted on 50 subjects, 20 obese patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus, 10 obese patients with impaired glucose tolerance, 10 obese subjects with normal glucose tolerance, 10 healthy subjects with normal body weight. |
