المستخلص This research represents an attempt to study the cajolery poetry of Alexandrians, then to identify the nature of this poetical purpose of Arab poets . Further more to identify the similarities and different aspects between the two literatures in terms of the circulated notion in the cajolery purpose both of Alexandrian and Abyssinian poets. so, I returned to study the eulogy poetry and its natural development during the Alexandrian epoch to Cajolery under certain political, Cultural and religious circumstances during the period 323-221 B.C., under the first three Ptolemies . •• This aim was achieved in the light of the poems of in Callimachus , Theocritus and Asclepiades . I have,like wise, studied the cajolery poetry of Arabs in the Abyssinian era during in the third and fourth A. H centuries . This genere of eulogy poetry is by lbn El - Rummy ,El - Buhtry and El - Mutanaby poems as they are poets who show considerable amount of cajolery poetry . Upon this ,I have divided my thesis in to a preliminary chapter , three parts and a conclusion •• in the preliminary chapter I handled the definition among the Greeks through studying the concept of eulogy of ”Aristotle” in his (Rhetoric) According to his view eulogy and cajolery and eulogy are two poetical purposes which are different basically in style and target with respect to each other . Eulogy, on the one hand, is one of the Epideictic rhetoric purposes which is a kind of the three rhetorical genres according to ”Aristotle ”; there are a difference as to the Epideictic rhetoric between eulogy and the laud of a person .As for the cajolery , it is another poetical purpose which is different in definition, substantially in respect to the eulogy, Its divisions and types are mentioned in the Gorgias Dialogue but it was fully explained Aristotle’s while elucidating his theory of ( The golden Medium ). . Then , I have handled my thesis in three respective parts as follows: Pirst part: {( ”Cajofery (]!oetry in tfz e Jfe{{enistic <Era Which includes two chapters: - )> First chapter : ” Evolution of Eulogy Poetry among the Greeks ” Through which , I have handled the evolution of eulogy purpose among the epochs of Greek literature ,starting with epic poetry and ending in tragedy ;Indeed also with the extent of the impact of this purpose by the different political influences . )> Second chapter: ”Circumstances that led to the Appearance of Cajolery poetry within the Study Period (323-221 B .C. )and Patterns of this poetry” . ./ The Circumstances that led to the appearance of cajolery poetry within the study period are Political ones,represented by the absolute power of autocratic ruling system and its relations with the poets. and Cultural conditions in respect to the cultural attractive orgainzation in Alexandria ( The library and the mouseion). The Religious circumstances are represented by terms of the breakdown of religion and existence of new cults such as ( Serapis ) and the deification of Kings. ./ Patterns of this poetry are repressented for the purpose as examples ; these were eXtracted from (Callimachus’ works (hymns to ” Zeus ”, ” Delos” and ” Apollo ”- epigram no. (52) Coma Berenices ’poem. and ”Theocritus’ works ( The Idyll no. · 14,15,16,17 ) and ” Asclepiade’ (Epigram no. 68) in eulogy of the Ptolemaic dynasty .
