Abstract Breast cancer is the most common cancer affecting women worldwide. The prevalence of breast cancer in recent years has prompted women to seek medical advice randomly with minimal breast symptoms, but only a small number of women are aware of the screening methods for breast cancer. Screening for early detection has led to reduction in mortality from the disease. In the Middle East, the incidence of breast cancer is rising and affecting a younger population compared to the West. Breast cancer awareness programs (BCAP) should be conducted to help in the prevention and early detection of breast cancer. In the Arab World, there are very few such programs. It is known that female healthcare professionals have greater influence on women’s positive perception of breast cancer and motivation to practice screening methods for early detection of the disease. The maternity nurses are in a good position to provide early detection guideline information to women with breast cancer. The present study used the quantitative descriptive research design. The main aim of the study was to investigate the maternity nurses’ knowledge bout mammography as a screening method for breast cancer. |
