Abstract

The present experiment was performed to investigate the effect of chlorpyrifos and cypermethrin on body performance, hematological, biochemical and immunological parameters in broiler chickens.
The experiment was carried out on one hundred broiler chicks (Hubbard strain) from one day old, divided equally into 5 groups and kept in separated pens for 7 days to acclimatize the place then; from day 8 of age were given treatment orally by syringe for 28 days as follows:
• group 1: given distilled water and served as control. group 2: given 1/50 LD50 of chlorpyrifos (0.5mg/kg B.wt.).
• group 3: given 1/10 LD50 of chlorpyrifos (2.5mg/kg B.wt.).
• group 4: given 1/50 LD50 of cypermethrin (140 mg/kg B.wt.).
• group 5: given 1/10 LD50 of cypermethrin (700 mg/kg B.wt.).
Chicks of all groups were observed and clinically examined. The body weight, feed consumption, body weight gain and FCR were calculated and recorded weekly. The mortality rate of each group was recorded. Dead chicks were subject to postmortem examination (PM).
Five chicks from each group were used for the collecting blood samples. Blood samples were collected from each bird from the wing vein at day 14 and day 28 of treatment and divided into 3 parts: The first was part 1 ml of blood collected on di-potassium salt of EDTA for hematological studies. The second part was 2 ml of blood collected from each bird in a sterile plastic centrifuge tube containing heparin (50 i.u/ml) to be used for separation of mononuclear leukocytes. The third part was 3 ml of blood taken without anticoagulant in a clean and dry centrifuge tube, leave to clot at room temperature and then centrifuged at 3000rpm for 5 minutes. The serum was collected for both biochemical and humoral immunological studies.
