Abstract

The present study was planned to investigate the effect of water acidification using CA, AA and their combination on growth performance and immunity in broilers. A total number of 132 one d-old cob 500 broiler chicks were randomly divided into four groups (control, CA, AA and combination gr,) each one contained 33 chicks. The four groups received the same basal diet. Control gr received tap water. CA gr received acidified drinking water (pH 4.5) with citric acid monohydrate. AA gr received acidified drinking water (pH 4.5) with acetic acid. Combination gr received acidified drinking water (pH 4.5) by a mixture of 1:1 AA and CA. The experiment was continued for 5 weeks. Body weight, body weight gain and feed intake were calculated weekly to obtain FCR for each bird. Blood samples were collected at 2W for determination THs and lipid profile parameters. At the end of experiment (5W) chicks were slaughtered. The intestinal pH was measured. Tow blood samples were collected, the first for TLC and DLC to calculate H/L ratio. While the second were used for determination of THs, lipid profile parameters, serum total proteins and albumin. Globulin and albumin globulin ratio were calculated. Edible organs were weighed. Liver spleen and small intestine were prepared for histopathological examination. Villus height and crypt depth were estimated.
The results showed that CA gives better broilers performanc, final BW and FCR. While AA gives poor performance, final body weight, liver weight and FCR. CA and combination of (CA and AA) elevate serum T3 and T4 that are reflected on reduction in LDL-C, TG and TC with elevation in HDL-C. The results revealed that CA increase TLC and improve spleenic lymphoid centers of broilers. Also CA increase serum globulin level and gives narrower A/G ratio.
