Abstract

Organizations have been interested in the role of management on how employees think and feel about their jobs, as well as what employees are willing to dedicate to the organization. In this structural context, organizations have been focusing great attention on behaviours that might influence organizational performance and effectiveness. Therefore organizations attempt to hire staffs that are not only willing to perform their formal role requirements, but are also willing to go beyond the role expectations and job duties. In this study, the researcher focuses on two of the important behaviours that human resource developers (HRD) are recently focusing on due to their major roles in the development of the organization which are employee engagement (EE) and organizational citizenship behaviours (OCB).
Employee engagement is the driver which can help in obtaining quality outputs, improved performance, employee participation, increased motivation levels. To say the least, employee engagement is the driver of success for any organization (Lakshmi,2012).
Organizational citizenship behaviour (OCB) has been the focus of attention from organizational behaviour researchers (Podsakoff et al., 2000; Organ and Ryan, 1995; Organ, 1997) since (Organ in 1988) proposed that organizational citizenship behaviour could influence individual and organization performance and thus, Organizational citizenship behaviour for any organization is desirable because it deals with major variables such as: organizational effectiveness and productivity.
This study will try to explore how a formal work behaviour represented in employee engagement will lead to an informal discretionary behaviour represented in organizational citizenship behaviour and so the researcher will attempt to prove how Employee Engagement(EE) can affect and lead to Organizational Citizenship Behaviour (OCB) through the theoretical and field study.
