Abstract Vehicles equipped with automated manual transmissions (AMT) for gearshift control offer many advantages in terms of high efficiency, improvement of driving comfort and shift quality. The AMT system presented in this work can automatically shift using three independently operated actuators mounted in a conventional manual transmission in accordance with a driver’s operation and vehicle conditions, the vehicles used during the thesis is equipped by a clutch-by-wire system where the engagement and disengagement rates are controlled. Also, the engine is equipped with a throttle-by-wire system where the engine load is controlled based on the driving conditions, finally the vehicle is equipped with a two-axis shift actuator. The smoothness of the shift during driving highly depends on the synchronization of all actuators. A mathematical model of the vehicle has been derived and simulated using MATLAB SIMULINK to simulate the vehicle performance with AMT system. A test vehicle equipped with AMT actuators is tested on the chassis dynamometer to test the performance of AMT system on the vehicle during launch, upshift and downshift. The AMT control system based on fuzzy logic controller was designed, simulated and implemented using MATLAB software. Fuzzy logic controller provides good performance characteristics compared to conventional driver operated manual transmission where better shift times and shift interruption is achieved. |
