Abstract Early oral feeding within the first 24 hours after elective colorectal surgery in selected atients was found to be safe well tolerated improvespostoperative GI motility .Postoperative care of the colorectal patient is focused on decreasing morbidity, mortality, and health-care costs. An estimated 161,000 Medicare patients undergo major intestinal surgery in the USA annually at a cost of 1.75 billion dollars. The average patient remains in the hospital 10.3 days after colorectal surgery, costing approximately 1,055 $ per day. |
