Abstract
The present study was conducted to throw light on evaluation of efficacy of tulathromycin (both in vitro and in vivo) in treatment of rabbits experimentally infected with P. multocida. (A) In vitro studies:a-Isolation of P. multocida:Cultivation of blood sample of infected rabbits on blood agar media, showed growth of round, gray and mucoid colonies after 24 hrs of incubation at 37º C. b- Sensitivity of P. multocida to tulathromycin compared with other antibiotics (disc-diffusion method):The results of sensitivity test showed that tulathromycin had more potent inhibitory effect on P. multocida than other antimicrobial agent tested. B) In vivo studies:In our study, a total number of 40 healthy rabbits with average body weight of (1500-1600 gm) were randomly allocated into 4 equal groups (each one contained 10 rabbits). Group A: (Control group): Rabbits of this group were served as non infected non treated, it administrated physiological saline at a dose (0.025 ml/kg b.wt, s/c). Group B: (Non Infected treated group): Rabbits of this group kept non infected and treated with therapeutic dose of tulathromycin (02.5 mg/kg b.wt, s/c), as a single dose, subcutaneously.
