Abstract The success of project management is represented in achieving the main goals of construction projects in terms of cost, time and quality. So, cost overrun is an indicator of construction project failure. Egyptian construction projects face problems in achieving their goals concering cost control for many reasons. The ultimate purpose of every project owner, investor or contractor is not exceedthe project buget. Both of the theoretical study and respodents indentified the questionnaire about 95 factors causing cost overrun in the projects in the case study area, which were extracted from the literature review and the pilot study. Consequently, the most important factors causing cost overrun were found to be : additional work at the owner’s request, the donor’s policy in bidding to the lowest price, poor technical structure of the construction companies, fluctuation in the cost of the construction materials; poor planning and coordination, design changes due to enhancement required by the clients, and wastefulness in materials during construction. |
