Abstract

BA TORM is the first toroidal plasma machine designed and operated in Egypt. BATORM is low cost
machine which can be operated up to tokamak regime. It has been considered as baby tokamak, which started operation at
the same time 1998 of Todoroki machine in Japan. The word BATORM is an abbreviation to ”BAby TORidal
Masoud”. The system provided rich information on toroidal discharge physics of tokamak which includes small
impurities.
The BATORM consists mainly of vacuum chamber & vacuum system, Toroidal, Ohmic & Vertical coils and
electrical circuit. The vacuum chamber consists of two parallel aluminum plate electrodes, which is fixed at Pyrex
glass discharge chamber of 20 cm length, and inner diameter of 18,25 cm. At the center of this chamber there is
another glass tube of 20 cm length, and outer dfemeter of 6 cm. from this, the major radius (R) of the BA TORM devise
is R=6J25 cm and its minor radius (a) is a -3J25 cm. So the aspect ratio of this device = R/a = 1.96.
There are 4 small ports in the plasma chamber each of them has lcm diameter, one of them is connected to the
needle valve to insert helium gas up to the working pressure and the other ports are used to insert diagnostic tools. There
are also two large ports in the two electrodes each of them
