Abstract This study was conducted over the period from September 2013 to April 2015. It included 160 patients admitted to different ICUs of Menoufia University Hospitals (MUHs) and suffering from hospital-acquired infections from whom 270 clinical specimens were collected including urine, sputum, tracheal aspirate, blood, wound swabs and bed sore swabs. The specimens were processed according to standard microbiological methods. One hundred and twenty one Enterobacteriaceae isolates were obtained and identified by standard microbiological methods and Enterobacteriaceae isolates subjected to molecular diagnosis were identified using API system. Susceptibility screening tests were done for all isolates by disk diffusion method against different antimicrobial agents and results were categorized as susceptible and resistant according to Clinical and Laboratory Standard Institute guidelines.
