Abstract In this study, different solutions are proposed for underground stations construction by using the New Austrian Tunneling Method (NATM) with TBM focusing on Egyptian conditions. Moreover, underground stations are supposed to be excavated by using NATM method with pre-supporting system to control ground settlements. Different forms of excavation are studied for three cross section groups and their effects on ground deformation have been clarified for clayey and sandy soil in Egypt. Concrete pre-supporting systems are studied for large underground stations and also their properties and their effect on the values of the settlements are presented. Haroun Station (Greater Cairo Metro Line 3) is used as a case study for different systems proposed in the research. Results of proposed systems are discussed. Analysis and results of these studies can help to provide a better understanding of alternative solutions for the construction of big sections for underground stations. |
