Abstract

head nurses is labclcd as Cl lulcrum or managerial success or the nursing
unit and as has a pivotu] role in the hospital as a whole, She/he should be
willing to take risks. advocate for others, support professional standards
aud growth and not avoid conflict but resolve it skilllully (Davics, 2013).
So that head nurse should behave assertively to achieve positive self-
images and maintain ”I’m ok” position. Assertiveness influence nurse
leaders’ performance and facilitate professional productivity (Eggeret,
2(11).
The nun of the present study was to find out the effect of
assertiveness on head nurses performance working at Ministry or Health
hospitals in lsmailia govcrnoratc through: assessing the assertiveness
level or head nurses, observing the head nurses’ performance, and
exploring the relationship between assertiveness and head nurses
performance. It included eight general hospitals and consisted of 6t> units.
Two tools were used for data collection. self-structured
questionnaire sheet (demographic characteristics of head nurses and
assertiveness bchavior inventory scale) and observation checklist.
The study findings revealed the following:
• The majority or head nurses had school diploma degree (74SYtl). and
the majority ofthem were married (80%).
• ;\11 head nurses didn’t attend training course in management.
• The majority or head IILII•SCS were assertive in relation to active
