Abstract
Computer-based activities have become part of daily life for many schools around the world. The computer related injuries cover a wide variety of health problems caused by or contributed by computer usage which are all preventable .The aim of this study is to assess the effect of applying health education package about healthy use of computer for technical school students at Mansoura city. Subject and methods, this is a quasi-experimental study was conducted in technical schools of five years system affiliated to Mansoura city. This study included195 technical secondary school students at fourth grade .Tools used to collect the data were computer user student structured questionnaire, computer users observation checklist, Visual Display Unit (VDU) workstation checklist and health education package check list. Results of the study revealed that the mean age of the study sample was 19.2± 0.32 years and 88.2% of the students had poor knowledge in pretest compared to 95.9% of students immediately and 91.3% after 3 months showed good score level of knowledge. Also more than two thirds 67.2% had improper practices in pre test compared to 95.4% of students immediately and 93.3% after 3 months had proper practices, eye problems were 88.7% among the students followed by musculoskeletal 76.4% in pre test and decline to 48.2% and 48.7% respectively after 3 months with a highly significant difference. The study concluded that the applying of the health education package led to significant improvement in the students knowledge and practices regarding healthy computer use and decrease the associated computer health problems Recommendation , the study recommended that a community health nurses at various points of contact within a community should be raise the awareness regarding healthy use of computer among computer users especially schools.
