Abstract

A lot of work was devoted to incorporating different dyes into solid matrices in order to obtain solid-state laser emission ranging from the near UV to the near IR to replace the classical liquid dye laser emission. Recently, most of the promising results have been obtained with pyrromethene doped material because of their high laser efficiency and high photostablity. The present aimed to compare between three laser dyes, two of them belong to pyrromethene family (PM-567, PM-597) and the other belong to exanthene family (Rh-B) doped in different host material prepared in our laboratory;1) Polymeric host material (GMA) as a new host material for laser dyes.2) Sol-gel silica glass (3) New Hybrid material which combine organic-inorganic material. The optical absorption of the un-doped and doped host material with laser dyes were measured using Perkin Elmer Lambda 40 double beam spectrometer in the rang (300-700nm). The fluorescence spectra of the three laser dyes in different host material were measured with Perkin-Elmer LS-50B luminescence spectrometer. Raman spectra for different host material (GMA polymer, Sol-gel silica glass, Hybrid material) un-doped and doped with laser dyes (PM-567, PM-597 and Rh-B) were recorded using Brucker 106/RFS 100 FT-Raman spectrometer. Measurements and calculations of some photophysical parameters such as: Molecular extinction coefficient (ε), absorption and emission cross section, fluorescence quantum yield (фf), fluorescence lifetime for (PM-567, PM-597 and Rh-B) laser dyes doped in different host material were estimated. The Gain and its dependence on dye concentration for three laser dyes (PM-567, PM-597 and Rh-B) doped in different host material were also measured. The peak wavelength emission spectra of the different concentration of three different laser dyes (PM-597, PM-567 and Rh-B) doped in different host materials were studied using second harmonic Nd-YAG laser as exciting source and the peak wavelength emission spectra were recorded using Spectrometer model (PE-2000 Stiller Net. Inc). The effect of the dye concentration on the out put versus input pump power (532nm Nd: YAG laser) for different concentrations for laser dyes in different host material were also measured using Electron power meter model (3J-09). The optimum concentration having high gain and giving high output energy for three different laser dyes doped in different host material were used in two different optical cavity configuration (longitudinal pumping and transfer pumping configurations). Laser beam from three laser dyes (PM-567, PM-597 and Rh-B) doped in three different host materials (New polymeric host material GMA polymer, Sol- gel silica glass, and New Hybrid material) was study considering some characteristics of laser beam such as; Laser beam quality, beam divergence, beam waist, laser wavelength, laser temporal profile, laser efficiency, and the photostability of laser dyes (useful lifetime operation) Finally a proposed design of a flashlamp pumped solid state dye laser was constructed here including: Power supply for flashlamp and study of some characteristics such as; the energy delivery from the power supply, the current pulse duration, the triggering pulse, and the emission spectra for flashlamp. Optical cavity ( elliptical aluminum optical cavity) Laser rod; a prepared new polymeric host material GMA doped with PM-597 laser with length (5cm)Optical resonator consists of (100% reflection mirror in visible region with radius of curvature 10 m and 50% output coupler for (550-650nm).Characteristics of the laser emission from flashlamp pumped new polymeric GMA doped with PM-597 such as; Laser efficiency, laser temporal profile, and peak laser wavelength were also studied.
